Bread Halwa

Bread halwa is a famous sweet dish in India.  Here I’m using brown bread for the halwa; so that halwa got a nice color. You can use other white breads also. It is very easy to make. However the bread get cooked easily.
Ingredients:
  1. Whole meal bread-6pieces (i used brown bread ..that's why the color looks like)
  2. Milk-2cup
  3. Sugar-1cup
  4. Condensed milk- ½ tin
  5. Cardamom powder- ¼ tsp.
  6. Ghee-3tbsp
  7. cashew nuts-to decorate
  8. coconut flakes-to decorate
Preparation:
  • Add a tablespoon of ghee in a pan; fry the cashew nuts.
  • Take it out and in the same pan add the bread slices (cut in to small cubes).
  • Sauté it on a low flame for 5 minutes till brown in color and crispy.
  • Meanwhile boil milk in a deep bottom non-stick pan.
  • When it boils, add sugar; stir well until it dissolves completely.
  • Add the fried bread pieces in to it; keep stirring.
  • Add condensed milk and cardamom powder in to it.
  • Stir well until it reaches the halwa consistency. I.e. leaves from the sides of the pan.
  • Pour in to a greased pan; when cools down cut in to pieces.
  • Decorate with cashew nuts and shredded coconut.
