Tomato rice or thakkali sadham is a popular south Indian recipe. It is very easy to make and everyone loves it. The rice is slightly spicy and tangy. If you want to reduce the spiciness, avoid the spices that which you don’t like.
Ingredients:
- Cooked rice (Basmati rice / Ponni rice)-1cup
- Tomato Puree-1cup (or 2 tomatoes)
- Oil-3tsp
- Mustard seeds-1tsp
- Chana daal-1tsp
- Urad daal-1/2 tsp
- Red chilly-2nos
- Curry leaves-1string
- Cashew nut/ pea nut- 5nos
- Shallots chopped-3tbsp
- Ginger garlic crushed-1tsp
- Asafoetida- a pinch
- Cumin powder-1/2 tsp
- Chilly powder- ½ tsp
- Coriander powder- ½ tsp
- Salt-to taste
- Coriander leaves-few Preparation:
- Boil two large tomatoes for 5 minutes and wash it with cold water.
- Remove the skin of the tomatoes and put it in a blender to make fine puree without adding water.
- Keep it aside.
- In a large pan; heat oil and splutter mustard seeds.
- Add urad daal, chana daal, curry leaves and cashew nuts.
- Add shallots chopped and sauté for a minute.
- Add ginger garlic paste and sauté until raw smell goes off.
- Add all the powders one by one and sauté well.
- Add tomato puree in to it along with salt.
- Mix well and sauté for 5 minutes.
- Add cooked rice in to it; mix well and sauté until the rice tomato-mix completely dries off.
- Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with raita and pickle.
