Erachi Puttu Recipe

Puttu is an authentic recipe of breakfast in Kerala. Wide range of puttu with different flavors (rice puttu, wheat puttu, kappa puttu etc.) are available. Here comes the special spicy filling with mussel meat. You can try it with different fillings like chicken masala, beef masala , prawn masala etc.

Erachi Puttu
Ingredients:
For Puttu:
  1. Rice flour / puttu podi- 2cup
  2. Grated coconut-1/2 cup
  3. Salt-to taste
  4. Water- ¼ cup
For Masala:
  1. Mussels-2cup
  2. Onion-2small
  3. Ginger garlic paste-1tbsp.
  4. Green chilly- 1
  5. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp.
  6. Coriander powder-1tsp.
  7.  chilly powder-1tsp.
  8. Pepper powder-1tsp.
  9. Garam masala -1/4tsp.
  10. curry leaves-1string
  11. Coriander leaves-few
Preparation:
  • Cook mussels with 1/4tsp of turmeric, pepper powder and salt in a pressure cooker with little water for two vissil.
  •  Dried out all the remaining water by open heating.
  • Heat oil in a pan; Sauté onion.
  • Add ginger garlic paste, curry leaves and green chilly; sauté till the raw smell goes off.
  • Add all the remaining powders.
  • Add the cooked mussel in to it; sauté for 5 minutes.
  • Add coriander leaves in to it.
  • Mix the rice flour with water and salt; mix well till it reaches bread crumbs consistency.
  • In the puttu kutti first add a table spoon of grated coconut; then add ½ cup rice flour and then the meat mixture.
  • Add again rice flour and grated coconut on top of it.
  • Put it on the puttu maker by adding water.
  • Cover the lid and cook about 8 minutes till the steam comes out through the holes on the lid.
  • It comes out well cooked when the steam comes out well.
  • Serve it with the remaining masala.
