Rice Murukku (Ari murukk)

Murukku is a crispy Indian tea time snack. Now a days, for most of them it is a nostalgic snack also.Usually we used to buy it from the stores. But we can easily make it at home; if we have the murukku maker (star shaped mold of idiyappam maker).
Ingredients:
  1. Rice flour-1 cup
  2. Moong dal- 3tbsp
  3. Kadala parippu / channa dal-1 tbsp
  4. Black sesame seeds-1 tsp
  5. Cumin seeds- 1/4 tsp
  6. Hing /asafoetida-a pinch
  7. Ghee/ Butter- 1 tbsp
  8. Salt-to taste
  9. Oil- for frying
Preparation:
  • Dry roast moong dal and chana dal for a minute in low flame.
  • Put it in a blender and make fine powder out of it.
  • Mix it with rice four, black sesame seeds, hing, salt and butter.
  • Add water little by little and make a smooth dough out of it (don't add too much water; just enough to make a smooth dough).
  • Insert a part of the dough inside the murukku maker and make round shaped murukku of desired shape in to a an aluminium foil or banana leaf (to prevent sticking)(or directly in to the ladle).
  • Deep fry it in te hot oil until nice golden and crispy.
  • Drain in to paper towels and enjoy with a cup of tea.
  • Store in an airtight container for about one month.
